Jamie House Design in 2020 (Pre-Pandemic) | Berlin

Jamie House Design’s interior design work is quietly curated. It’s detailed. It’s thoughtful. It’s unpretentious and authentic. Every space and detail is designed for our clients and their lifestyle. Jamie House Design maintains intentional focus on detail and design quality in every space. We lean into the special details that make our designs unique. Our Denver studio curates a high-level mix.

(This post was written pre-pandemic. While our intention remains the same, our minds are with everyone experiencing hardship in this time.)

Jamie House Design has taken a massive step back at the end of 2019 to just rejuvenate. No interior design plans. No evaluating the year and no writing down goals. No back-end design firm work. I haven’t taken any time in the last say 8 years, maybe 10, to only reflect. Important design or business work has always been my priority, even on holidy. Yet I’m now finding myself drained, the creative pool is running dry.

It’s January 13 and I’m, for the first time this year, sitting down to a full day of designing. I am so excited to get to these interior space designs. I am refreshed and clear in my intentions for the designs and for the direction of Jamie House Design.

I am in Berlin still but my projects are all in the US, so I’m constantly plugged into the rhetoric around the new year and starting new and always needing to fix ourselves and it doesn’t feel aligned anymore. In considering that I realized that moving to Berlin was really us consciously deciding to walk away from the constant treadmill of DOING/ HUSTLING that is pushed in the States.
We’ve been in Europe for almost three years and I’m finally now relaxing into the concept that one doesn’t have to just keep constantly DOING.

I’m stepping away from the postering and step into real authenticity and connection.

Jamie House Design’s work is quiet. It’s detailed. It’s thoughtful. It’s unpretentious and authentic. Every space and detail is designed for you and your lifestyle. I’m keeping intentional focus on quality and intention in every space this year. Leaning into the special details that make our designs unique.

Our working time is going to be less and our play time is going to be more.

Our commitment to our amazing clients and the amazing projects scheduled for 2020 is deepened by being more purposeful with what we’re allowing into our space.
Our creativity is expanding and our project detail will expand with our off time being full of play.

I am very excited about our 2020 direction. It feels authentic to me. And refreshing in that we’ve always worked this way but this renewed intention has inspired me.

What’s planned for this space are discussions on our current services being offered, discussing specific elements of our projects, and what I’ve learned from working as an interior designer for the last 17 years.
We’re excited to connect more, show up more outside of working with our dear clients, and to bring more fun for fun’s sake to 2020.

Another Day in a Designer's Life

I did my best to document what I did along the day, missing large chunks and even leaving my phone at the studio at one point. D'oh! This is my studio day. I take one day a week to not schedule appointments so I can have large chunks of time to really get into projects. It's a struggle, but man everyone benefits from my studio days.

I did my best to document what I did along the day, missing large chunks and even leaving my phone at the studio at one point. D'oh! This is my studio day. I take one day a week to not schedule appointments so I can have large chunks of time to really get into projects. It's a struggle, but man everyone benefits from my studio days.

So first of all I broke my cardinal rule and met a contractor at a jobsite on my studio day. The day before was super rainy and I just did not want to jobsite in the rain. I mean look at this mud! Interior Design is glamorous and chic.

This meeting was reviewing cabinetry and millwork drawings that I designed onsite to be sure everyone understands my concept and details. DETAILS. They're so important. I prefer to design all of the millwork if possible as well. It's much more fun to dream up ideas than to search catalogs.

This is so embarrassing. But it was requested that I actually BE in my posts sometimes ;) It was SO COLD.

I got to see how my wood floor inlay design turned out and I LOVE it. BUT I don't love the mud and power tools all over it... Really this site is so muddy with all of the rain they've done a good job trying to keep it clean.

I'm back at the studio to have coffee and emails. I usually run out the door quick in the morning and bring coffee along but since I knew the meeting would be quick I'd rather have my coffee in my fav mug cozy in front of the laptop. My desk is really a table, not the final but great for now. This is usually the state of things around here during the day. This randomness is actually organized chaos I promise!

So working working working is going on. A quick Skype call with my business coach, so paint color selections I should have photographed. These apples taste JUST like candy. Almost too sweet. Almost.

My assistant insists that we sit in the same chair. It's really cozy. & I love it. Perks of having a home studio!

So still in the office working through projects. I can't live without my notebooks. I write everything down. I just can't go full digital, I think with my hands. I've always sketched out plans and drawings before putting them into AutoCAD. I still have to write out ideas and to do lists before adding them to my calendar or emails. Are you fully digital?? I am more than I was a few years ago but I love to draw things out, it's like meditation to me.

Here's where I left my phone (my life!!!) at the studio. There is a great reclaimed wood dealer in my neighborhood so I popped over to meet a contractor there to look at some reclaimed beams that were brought in from Roundtop for a fun project I'm doing. This picture is from a few days earlier but you get the idea. This place is full of treasures.

So I ended the day meeting up with some good friends for a double date and we popped by a client's place to see how everything's going since we were close. Also since my client doubles as my friend's mom ;) Her place is really livable and cute. Mayb…

So I ended the day meeting up with some good friends for a double date and we popped by a client's place to see how everything's going since we were close. Also since my client doubles as my friend's mom ;) Her place is really livable and cute. Maybe one day I'll share some about the people behind the rooms I design. This space is a complete reflection of her. And look she even lit candles! The sweetest. This room was wood paneled and just blah before. My most favorite part of interior design is creating spaces that reflect my client's tastes and lifestyles. I have the best job.

Exciting Updates at Jamie House Design

As the season shifts and fall slowly makes its presence known, Jamie House Design is busier than ever! With the holidays fast approaching, now is the perfect time to schedule design projects before workrooms reach capacity. Typically, our workrooms stop accepting "before Christmas" requests by the end of October, so planning ahead is key. The holiday season always seems to arrive faster than expected, and this year, we are staying ahead of the curve.

Recently, I had the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and speak at the Texas Home & Garden Show. Public speaking has always been a challenge for me, but the experience was invaluable. My presentations covered finding your unique design style, integrating current trends into your home, and practical design tips—including the art of styling with trays. It was a fantastic experience meeting industry professionals and visitors, and I truly enjoyed engaging with attendees and answering their design questions.

It has now been six months since I dedicated myself fully to Jamie House Design, and I couldn’t be more excited about the direction we are headed. I am incredibly grateful for the trust and support of my clients—your confidence in my work fuels my passion every day. This journey has been both exhilarating and demanding, but I have never felt more fulfilled.

To enhance the quality of our services, I have been refining processes to deliver the best designs as efficiently as possible. As part of this evolution, I have made the decision to discontinue our E-Design and Design in a Box services for the time being. While these offerings were valuable, my focus remains on providing highly personalized, in-person design services for homes and businesses. Face-to-face collaboration allows for a deeper connection and more tailored solutions, and I truly enjoy working with each client to bring their vision to life.

Thank you to my incredible clients and vendors—you are truly the best! I look forward to continuing to create beautiful, functional spaces together.
