Here in Berlin, autumn is in full swing, as you can see in the photo. The colors this year are absolutely breathtaking—no filter needed. However, with the days growing shorter, the reality of winter is settling in. While I’d love to say I’ll be happily nested in our apartment all season, life doesn’t slow down just because the weather turns cold. Even with the dark and rainy days ahead, there will still be moments worth embracing—and hopefully, a few holiday escapes along the way.
Jamie House Design Weekender is my version of wrapping up the week by sharing items I've found interesting throughout the week, some interior design related, some not. But they're always interesting and never ordinary, just like Jamie House Design.
I've been making a conscious effort to disconnect from the constant noise of the internet lately. With the news cycle feeling overwhelmingly negative, I’ve found that stepping back has been essential for maintaining a positive mindset. Judging by social media, I’m not alone in this feeling. That said, there is still so much beauty and inspiration in the world, and I look forward to seeking it out and sharing it.

Here’s what I found interesting online this week.
Käthe Kollwitz is a prolific artist from East Berlin. My neighborhood has a whole square with great playgrounds and even better markets dedicated to her. She has made a very positive and proud impact on Berlin. The Guardian wrote a great article detailing her style, motivations, and impact all to celebrate her 150th birthday.
June Superfoods is a supplement company/ powdered drink company for kids that I learned about recently. And that’s cool but what I love is they have a great page detailing exactly why food are superfoods and which ones are considered superfoods.
I love Yoga With Adriene. Do you?? This article about her and how she came to rule YouTube is great. I didn’t know much about her honestly. I love how friendly and down to earth she is, easy to watch for yoga at home.
I’m not sure how I happened upon this article but it fits because my birthday is in March so traveling in March is always great for me. Also we’re already in Europe so I’m interested to know what articles in the US say about traveling here. So… if you want to travel in March to Europe check out this article.
Do you read in your spare time? Books I mean. I have made it a priority to fit reading back into my life this year. I’ve remembered what a great relaxer it is. Now I can hardly fall asleep with reading at least a bit. PBS put together a list of the 100 Great American Books. How many have you read?
I am always looking for more recipes. I am on the lookout for easy, quick, and more veggies. This article by Society 19 goes through 10 quick meals that actually look good.
One of the last great eccentric interior designers passed away this week. I did a big paper on Mario Buatta in design school. The Prince of Chintz. No one was exactly jealous of my assignment but I thought he was fabulous. In Design School if it’s not starkly modern and commercial it just doesn’t have much clout. I was excited to see him speak a few years ago to Bold Summit. He was a truly talented designer and fascinating person. So old school, in a frustrating charming way.

This week feels like a major transition week into fall yet the temperatures remain in the 80s (29c). The light has shifted to a warm dancing light as it filters through the trees. The breeze is crisp and cool. The evenings are getting cooler and the days are getting shorter.

This week feels like a major transition week into fall yet the temperatures remain in the 80s (29c) in Berlin. The light has shifted to a warm dancing light as it filters through the trees. The breeze is crisp and cool. The evenings are getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. AJ is nearing three and I’m spending a lot of time running after him, especially on his balance bike (laufrad). I’m spending less time online and that means what I do read I find particularly important. I’m hunting down new recipes a lot too as the typical meals are getting repetitive. I love design, but for my downtime it’s cooking and gardening. Both relax and inspire me. So here we go…
After years of distance between me and my design work in China I love seeing that Shanghai is jumping into the design scene. Shanghai, the center, is such a dynamic cool place. I’m excited to see artisans there pushing the envelope.
In the never ending quest to organize my life and all I need to remember and follow up on I’ve been pondering the Bullet Journal concept. This article is a good intro into it.
In my quest for new recipes I found Rachel Roddy’s blog about food. I love reading and talking about food. I want to know what’s in everyone’s grocery carts. I want to know what you’re eating for breakfast. It’s all so fascinating to me. Rachel’s writing is beautiful and her recipes inspiring.
I’ve shared the Ben & Birdy blog previously, but I’m particularly excited to make the Yeasted Waffles this weekend. It sounds divine.
Just one more recipe. This 2012 Wednesday Chef post somehow emerged for me and I can’t get the idea of an Polenta crusted artichoke tart out of my mind. I haven’t cooked much with Polenta but now seems like a good time to try.
I want to go to Peru. I read an article, could be years ago, that never left my mind. It was about running an Ultra Marathon in Peru. I’ve dreamt of taking a solo trip there ever since, although not for an Ultra lol.
A travel blog that I repeatedly go return to is Asher Ferguson’s packing lists. They have a ton of other travel related blogs, but my fav is the packing lists. I don’t always follow them but they have great tips I’ve never considered.
Last note, if you have kids you’ll want to check this out. Story Time From Space. Astronauts read kids a book from the International Space Station. So cool.
I’m launching several different types of Interior Design services so please reach out within the next month for a special deal. To get the deal you just have to provide me with some feedback, a sort of Beta test.
If you think you want to have some changes made in your home, updates & upgrades, you better get on it. Companies are putting September as their deadline for Christmas and most of our trades are already booked through November.
Cheers!

I have found a ton of good things on the internet. Here they are…
Sandy Hook architect Jay Brotman testified in front of Congress advocating for softer school design. “..security features, while vital and necessary, should be as invisible as possible and incorporated into the school’s design. Failing to do so puts children’s education, emotional development and pro-social behaviour at risk.” So. Important.
A cookie recipe. I haven’t made it because I don’t need these sitting around, but I love baking so it’s on my list. I mean with a sentence like this you have to try them, “Once Greenspan's recipe made its rounds, it became known as the "World Peace Cookie," because ‘if everyone had it, peace would reign o'er the planet.’.”
Marie Kondo packs a suitcase. Say no more I need this information in my life.
Discussing what “Eclectic Style” really means. Hint, it doesn’t mean just throwing a bunch of stuff together without thought.
How to impact company innovation through brand. I know, sounds boring. It kind of is. But it’s worth it if you have a brand.
How do you handle arguments and fights in your relationship with your significant other? We don’t have anything that works in any real way except talk it out when we’re less heated, but this amazing couple dances. #relationshipgoals

The tyranny of convenience. Really fabulous article. Moving to Europe has caused me to really analyze life in the US vs. life in the EU. The thing that jumps out at me the most is the US is very dedicated to remaining comfortable. *Not to judge any way of living. I just like to notice the different ways people move throughout the world and their life.
What self care really means. "It means rewiring what you have until your everyday life isn’t something you need therapy to recover from."
This article about how the author Metabolizes Stress and Anxiety is spot on for me. It's an interesting way to think about it. I identify.
I fade in and out of meditation based on what's going on in my life. I'm currently studying it and have found great information from Tara Brach.
If you're looking to travel Europe the site, Rear View Mirror, is a great introduction. So many places in Europe get overlooked for Tuscany & Paris. Well there is so much more!
I'm entering mid-life. Not quite there but close enough to be feeling it. This read by Brene Brown, always brilliant, is comforting. And not. But some real honesty about it is exactly what I was looking for.
The Brand Influencer Power Struggle. If you're curious about the concept of influencer this article should help.
I'll be hanging around Berlin enjoying the last bits of real summer with my family. Hopefully a trip to the lake later on today is in the cards. Also grocery delivery in Berlin has changed my life. Hallelujah for grocery delivery!
Schönes Wochenende!
